We just wrapped up an amazing week at Paulina Lake and finished on a high note at Odell Lake! Paulina is such a beautiful place to fish, even if the mornings felt a bit chilly at first. But no worries—it warmed up nicely, and the water was as calm as can be. A little ripple could have made things interesting, but we embraced the glassy conditions!
At the start of the week, the fishing was a bit slow, but thankfully, things picked up as we moved along, with nearly everyone on the boat getting close to their limits. We noticed that the fish had moved to deeper waters, hanging out around 40 to 60 feet deep. Pink Hoochies were definitely the top choice for bait. Just a heads up—around 9:00 AM, the bite tends to slow down a bit. We caught quite a few red males and dark females, all showing signs of pre-spawn. We released them so they could finish their business in peace!
Then we headed to Odell for a fun-filled day with a bachelor party—seven guys in total! We ended up boating 52 fish together. Even though the water was a bit stained, it didn’t stop the fish from biting. We fished between 40 and 70 feet deep, and the set-backs at 50 to 60 feet were working like a charm. This was our first trip to Odell this year, and wow, the Kokanee are looking fantastic!
Exciting news! We’re gearing up for the Kokanee Power of Oregon Derby this weekend at Odell Lake, which is always a blast. If you’re looking to join in on the fun, we still have some dates available in August for some great Kokanee fishing. Just head over to Dayoneoutdoors.com to book a trip and ask for James!
