Hey everyone!
What a fun-filled day we had out at Lake Billy Chinook! We got to the lake right in time for fishing, and the temperature was a pleasant 30°, giving us a nice, summery vibe. After a short 20-minute boat ride, we noticed it cooled down a bit on the Metolius River, dropping to the low 20s, and let me tell you—everything on the boat was feeling it!
We kicked things off by targeting Bull Trout and started off running plugs for the first few hours without much luck. So, we decided to switch gears to bait and set out a couple of kokanee rods. Kokanee fishing is always a blast, and today was no exception! Finally, Dave Bales hooked into a beautiful 23-inch Bull Trout using kokanee gear, which was a highlight for sure!
As the day went on, we got into some serious action with doubles, triples, and even quad hookups on kokanee—it was pure mayhem! Daniel really impressed us all when he hooked a much larger Bull Trout and successfully landed a gorgeous 27-incher. We caught all our bull trout on cut plug herring from 25 to 90 feet, and the best part? We released them all to fight another day!
In total, we ended the day with an impressive tally: 3 Bull Trout and a whole bunch of kokanee. It was also awesome to see Nick Guy and Lee Chase with their crew on Nick’s boat. They brought in 60 kokanee, making for a fantastic combined total of 90 kokanee between the two boats!
It was truly an amazing day out there—can’t wait to do it again soon!
Tight lines!not bad, 90 kokanee for two boats
