130 FISH IN FOUR TRIPS!
Paulina Lake and Lake Billy Chinook were on fire last week, with four successful trips producing around 130 fish! We had two groups fishing each lake, and both destinations delivered excellent action, strong numbers, and plenty of memorable moments on the water.
The fall season is shaping up beautifully in Central Oregon. With the summer crowds beginning to thin out, anglers can enjoy a little more room on the water while still taking advantage of an impressive bite. Whether you are looking for fast-paced action, quality Kokanee, or the chance to encounter one of Central Oregon’s prized Bull Trout, both Paulina Lake and Lake Billy Chinook are fishing strong right now.
Paulina Lake continues to produce bigger Kokanee, making it a great destination for anglers focused on quality fish and a relaxing day surrounded by the scenery of the Deschutes National Forest. The Kokanee have been active, and the larger average size has made each bite especially exciting. Paulina is a beautiful place to spend a day, and the combination of productive fishing, mountain views, and cooler fall weather makes this time of year one of our favorites.
Lake Billy Chinook has been delivering nonstop action and excellent numbers. The lake is known for its variety and opportunity, and this recent stretch has been no exception. Along with plenty of fish to keep rods bending, we also landed a couple of beautiful Bull Trout. These fish were carefully released so they could continue to thrive and provide future anglers with the same opportunity.
Hot setups:
Our most productive presentations recently included Poulsen Cascade Bella Rose Dodgers paired with custom purple Fingerlings from Dave Bales. We also had great success running LURED 7″ Dodgers with Full Throttle “It’s All Pink on the Inside” Fingerlings.
Matching the right dodger and lure combination can make a major difference, especially when the fish are active but still showing preferences for specific colors and profiles. These setups helped produce consistent action across both lakes and kept the fish coming throughout the trips.
